Miserere Mei - Psalm 51
Miserere Mei - Psalm 51
This simple, colorful print would be a great addition to the decor of any sacristy, confessional, or home altar area; it is an excellent gift for a parish/priest, First Holy Communicant, Confirmation candidate, or loved one. It features a luxuriant capital 'M' illuminated in gold with red vines and violet flowers.
In the NRSV - CE English translation of the Bible, the first verse of Psalm 51 - universally recognized as one of the most beautiful penitential Psalms of David, written after his affair with Bathsheba - reads: "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions." The full context of the Psalm expresses David's heartfelt contrition for his sin and is a plea for His mercy.
This piece is a transcription of the Latin Vulgate translation, where the verse instead appears as Psalm 50:3, reads: "Miserere mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam; et secundum multitudinem miserationem tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam."
