Farewell to the Altar Prayer Card Print

This beautiful prayer, adopted from the Maronite Catholic tradition, is prayed by the priest following Mass. The prayer expresses the priest's plea for forgiveness of sins, sorrow at our mortality, and a joyful hope to celebrate Mass again. The text is written in black and red in a Gothic/Blackletter style, and reads:

"Remain in peace, O Holy Altar of God. I hope to return to you in peace. May the offering I have received from you forgive my sins and prepare me to stand blameless before the throne of Christ. I know not whether I shall be able to return to you again to offer sacrifice. Guard me, O Lord, and prepare Your Holy Church, that She may be the way to salvation and the light of the world. Amen."
